This provision is good

n The childminder provides a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment. Children confidently choose and lead their own play from a broad range of indoor and outdoor resources and activities. n Children learn how to keep themselves safe. They carefully climb the steps to the slide and understand they need protective creams and sun hats in the sun. n The childminder uses a variety of methods to keep parents well informed of the good progress that their children make. She provides ideas for parents to continue to build on children's learning at home. n Children thoroughly enjoy their time at the childminder's setting. They are happy, confident and self-assured. n The childminder does not regularly seek the views of parents to help identify areas for future development. n The childminder does not maximise opportunities to support young children's communication and language skills to the highest level.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates a confident and robust understanding of safeguarding and wider child protection issues. She knows what to do to promptly address any concerns relating to children's safety or welfare. The childminder attends regular training which helps her to build on her own knowledge and skills. Following training attended, the childminder knows how to help parents seek support from other professionals, if needed. She is proactive in establishing effective partnerships with other settings that children attend. This helps to provide a consistent approach to support children's learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the different ways that children learn through play. She obtains detailed information from parents about children's milestones and what they can already do, from the start. The childminder observes children as they play and this helps her to identify what they need to learn next. She supports children's problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Older children experiment to see how hard they need to blow the liquid to make more bubbles. Younger children delight in chasing the bubbles as they blow across the garden. Children play with good imagination as they work out different ways to use hula hoops. The childminder supports younger children to feel the different textures and turn the pages in a book with care.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop a close bond and attachment to the childminder and settle in quickly. The childminder knows children well. For example, she quickly recognises when children are tired and need to sleep. The childminder gives children gentle reminders of expectations for their behaviour. Children behave very well. Older children kindly offer toys to younger ones and draw pictures for them to colour in. The childminder promotes children's emotional and physical well-being effectively. She provides healthy home- cooked meals and snacks and encourages children to follow good hygiene procedures. Children benefit from regular opportunities to play outdoors in the fresh air. They enjoy being active and move around with vigour and energy. Children learn about different festivals and celebrations and are eager to discover the world around them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are active, confident and motivated to play, explore and discover. They develop good independence and self-care skills, and are curious and inquisitive learners. Older children learn to write their own name and to put on their shoes. They are keen to talk about their own experiences and share their ideas. All children listen well to others and communicate their needs and requests effectively. They are developing the skills they need for their future learning and for when they move on to school.
