p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder follows clear policies and procedures which she shares with parents. She regularly updates her training so that she knows how to keep children safe from harm or abuse. The home is warm and clean with good daily routines to help children feel secure. They show a sense of belonging as they join in eagerly with activities, help themselves to toys and help to tidy away. The childminder has developed good links with other professionals to enhance her understanding of how children learn. She uses this to plan a good range of challenging activities that help children make progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has made considerable improvements to children's assessments, the planning of activities and use of resources. Due to detailed assessments of what children know already, she is aware of what she wants them to learn next. The childminder plans varied activities that encourage children to explore and learn together. She sits with children as they play and introduces new words to help develop their language skills. Children enjoyed threading cereal hoops onto pipe cleaners as they counted the hoops and talked about shape and number. They concentrated well as they made binoculars from cardboard and discussed the birds they will look for in the garden. Books are used well to help children confirm the shapes, numbers and animals they are talking about. Children further explore the natural world as they make pretend cakes in the mud kitchen. The childminder encourages children to mix the different materials, predict the

changes to the texture and talk about what will happen when they bake the cake. Indoors, children have good opportunities to become involved in preparing simple meals such as pizza and fruit kebabs. This active learning promotes children's mathematical, problem-solving and creative skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's personal, social and emotional development effectively. She gives regular praise and reassurance to help children know what they have done well. Children are happy and confident. They concentrate well on activities and are eager to have a go. They choose from a wide range of toys and resources that are easily accessible to them. Children are making good physical progress due to plenty of opportunities for outdoor play, which contributes to their good health. Feedback from parents is very positive and they appreciate that they can see their children learning and developing in the childminder's care.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are learning from carefully planned adult-led activities. Babies enjoy the company of older children. All children have opportunities to freely explore the natural environment when playing in the childminder's garden. They enjoy creative experiences, role play, singing and dancing. This helps children learn social skills and supports their emotional well-being. They are learning to follow instructions and to share and take turns with their friends. These are key skills that will help to prepare children for school.
