provides a good range of activities that support children's individual interests and motivates them well. n Occasionally, the childminder does not give children the opportunity to explore and investigate. For instance, she sometimes over-directs them during planned activities, limiting their ability to solve problems and think for themselves. n The childminder does not consistently reflect on her practice, to help raise her teaching to the highest levels.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of child protection procedures up to date. She knows what to do if she is concerned about a child's welfare or if an allegation is made about her or her assistants. The childminder continues to develop her professional knowledge. For example, she reads childcare journals and websites to gain ideas. The childminder supports and monitors her assistants' performance effectively. She ensures they attend essential training, such as first aid, and holds meetings with them to discuss the progress of the children. This helps to improve the outcomes for children and their safety. The childminder has established effective links with other settings and professionals to help provide consistency in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and their individual abilities. She interacts in a positive manner. She plays alongside children and helps them to develop good communication and language skills. The childminder uses good eye contact as she speaks to children and listens to what they have to say. She asks children questions and introduces new words to help increase their vocabulary. Children use their small-muscle skills well. This is evident as they use the construction toys and build restaurants and workshops. The childminder uses these opportunities well and extends the children's self-chosen play. She encourages then to build a train track, and they do so willingly, showing skill as they fix the track together. They use their imagination well as they shout, 'the train is on fire, let's call the fire engine'. Children are thoroughly engaged, involved and excited about their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment. She supports children's physical health and well-being effectively. Children are confident and demonstrate good independence skills. This is evident as they move around the rooms at ease and select their own toys and resources to play with. In addition, the children use their personal skills well. For instance, they take themselves to the bathroom and follow good hygiene routines as they wash their hands afterwards. The childminder promotes a healthy lifestyle. For example, she encourages children to drink water throughout the day and they have opportunities for regular outdoor play in the spacious garden. The childminder knows the children well and can recognise when they are hungry and responds accordingly.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including funded children, acquire a good range of skills to support their continuous learning and help them prepare for their eventual move to school. They are developing in their typical age range. Children listen and concentrate and have a positive attitude to learning. They are eager and enjoy finding out about new things. Children draw recognisable pictures and attempt to write their names. This helps to develop their early literacy skills. They learn about weighing objects, which helps them to develop their awareness of measurement and early mathematical skills.
