This provision is good
n The childminder establishes warm relationships with the children and knows them well. Children feel secure at the childminder's home and comfortable in her care, for example they ask her for help when needed. n The childminder builds children's confidence and sense of identity effectively. She listens to their ideas and gives them plenty of choice, such as what activities and food they would like to have when they next attend. Children are eager to take part and they engage well, showing good concentration. n The childminder provides a safe environment for the children and implements procedures well to promote their welfare. For example, she shares detailed information with parents following minor accidents, to enable consistency in children's care when they go home. n The childminder offers a good range of toys and resources that children can choose to play with in a comfortable play space. Children enjoy their time with the childminder,

where they can relax and unwind after school. n The childminder does not form close partnerships with the schools that children attend, to identify how she can offer complementary experiences to support children's learning. n The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to engage early years children in more detailed discussions and encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to recognise if a child's welfare may be at risk of harm, and knows how to refer concerns to the relevant outside agencies. She has a secure understanding of wider safeguarding issues, including how to protect children from extremist views, and the need to monitor children's attendance. The childminder evaluates her setting appropriately and makes good use of professional development opportunities. For example, she has researched ways to support children to behave well, such as by providing craft activities that calm children, encourage them to think and support them to talk about their day at school as they play. The childminder has found that this has reduced the number of disagreements between children and given them more opportunity to be creative.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy taking part in a range of interesting activities that successfully motivate them to take part and have a go. For example, children request the play dough and decide to hold a competition to see who can make the best 'three-course meal'. They think carefully about their choices, such as the colour of the play dough for each part, and consider which tools to use and how to make the food look as realistic or imaginative as they can. Children concentrate for sustained periods, persevering as they use trial and error to work out how to create the food they have planned. For instance, they try to cut out shapes with a knife and compare these to the shapes created by moulds, before deciding which they would like to use. They develop their strength and coordination, such as when trying to squeeze and press the dough into intended shapes, and proudly show off their finished work to the childminder.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder teaches children how to keep themselves safe, such as by crossing roads safely and walking sensibly along the pavement when walking back from school. Children listen to the childminder's prompts and follow her instructions, helping them to develop a good understanding of road safety. Children are confident, behave well and show good social skills. For example, they play harmoniously alongside each other, give affectionate cuddles to adults and often use good manners without prompt.
