This provision is good
n Children are happy and settle well in the care of the childminder. The childminder's nurturing practice has a very positive effect on their emotional well-being. n The childminder provides a broad range of experiences for children. They attend childcare groups to support their developing social skills and to help them build relationships with others. n The childminder works in close partnership with parents. She shares information about children's progress with them on a very regular basis. Parents express how much they value the childminder's focus on their child's individual needs. n The childminder has a good understanding of each child's level of development and the next steps in their learning. As a result, all children make good progress. n The childminder has taken effective steps since the last inspection to make the required improvements to her practice. p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to report any concerns she may have about children's welfare and has a clear understanding of the signs and symptoms of abuse. She understands what may indicate that a child is at risk from extreme views or behaviours. The childminder ensures her home is secure and she supervises children closely. Children are safe as the childminder is vigilant of potential risks, both in the home and outdoors, and takes appropriate action to minimise them. The childminder ensures that she keeps her knowledge up to date; she completes relevant training and utilises online professional resources.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular assessments of children's progress and is clear about their individual next steps. She uses her comprehensive knowledge of the children to plan activities that they enjoy and that are linked to their interests. She is skilled at adapting activities to meet the individual needs of children to ensure there is a suitable level of challenge. This helps them to make good progress through planned activities and opportunities that meet their learning needs. The childminder introduces children to books and stories and they enjoy sharing story time with her. This contributes to the development of their communication and language. The childminder takes every opportunity to engage children in conversation; she models language clearly and encourages children in their responses. She weaves mathematical language into everyday activities to aid children's familiarisation and understanding.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from very close relationships with the childminder. They settle in quickly and demonstrate that they feel emotionally secure. For example, they go to her for reassurance and support. The childminder obtains detailed information from parents and uses this to ensure that she provides care routines that children are familiar with from home. She recognises when children are tired or unwell and responds sensitively to their needs. Children behave well and build friendships with other children who attend. They start to learn how to keep themselves safe, for example the childminder talks to them about her rules to keep them safe while out walking. They learn about their local community during frequent trips out to local parks, shops and childcare groups.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points across all areas of learning. The childminder teaches them the skills they need to be prepared for school. They have fun mark making using a variety of resources such as paintbrushes and water outside. They dress and undress dolls to help to gain an understanding of how to dress themselves.
