For example, she recently completed training to support children with challenging behaviour. This enables her to build on the good practice already achieved. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very good knowledge of the possible signs of abuse and understands what action to take if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder ensures that her home is safe and secure. She carries out daily checks indoors and outside to ensure children play in a safe environment.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop. She responds well to their individual needs. The childminder encourages children to develop new interests and gain new skills. For example, children plant sunflower seeds and regularly water them to make them grow. Children have opportunities to use their imagination as they explore dressing-up clothes. The childminder effectively supports young children's emerging language as she uses single words and associative sounds. She plays alongside and interacts well to guide and extend their learning. Babies concentrate as they push buttons to make toys move and make noise. The childminder supports babies' drive to stand and walk as she provides them with toys to push along and help them balance.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is kind, caring and considerate of the needs of the children in her care. For example, she knows when they are tired or need a reassuring cuddle. Children have formed strong bonds with her. This helps to support their emotional well-being effectively. Settling-in procedures are tailored to meets each family's needs. The childminder invites parents and children for taster sessions where they become familiar with their surroundings and meet with her family. This ensures children are ready for the move from home to the childminder. Hygiene practices are good. The childminder provides nutritious and well-balanced meals and snacks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning and their move on to nursery or school. Children's independence is encouraged during the routines of the day. They help to lay the table at mealtimes. Babies try hard to drink from their cup and lie still during nappy changing. They hold chalks using a whole hand grasp and freely make marks.
