This provision is good

n The childminder is ambitious and actively seeks opportunities for professional development. She has gained an early years qualification, regularly attends training and meets with other childminders to share practice. She has used her learning to introduce new ways to help children become more physically active as they learn. n Partnership with parents is strong. The childminder provides detailed daily information to parents about their children's care and learning. She is particularly successful in providing information to help parents support children's learning at home. For example, she shares information about including mathematics learning in everyday activities. n The childminder carries out meticulous observations of children's learning. She uses these effectively to focus precisely on planning children's next steps. This helps children to make consistently good progress in their learning and development. Parents

comment positively on their children's progress and value the detailed learning journals which 'capture memories to cherish'. n The childminder provides a language-rich environment and successfully supports children's language and communication skills as they play. She models conversations and helps them to understand how to listen and respond, ask questions and maintain good eye contact. As a result, very young children are extremely confident to begin and engage in conversations with each other and visitors. n The childminder is caring and nurturing, and young children thrive in her care. She places a strong emphasis on developing children's social skills. She takes children to different groups where they learn to socialise with other children and adults. n Since registering, the childminder has raised her teaching practice to consistently good and occasionally outstanding levels. She has yet to focus more specifically on

developing an expert knowledge of teaching and learning to raise her practice to a consistently outstanding level. n Although the childminder has planned further improvements to the outdoor environment to help children learn more about the natural world, she has still to carry out the planned improvements.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Since registering, the childminder has worked extremely hard to establish high-quality provision. She regularly evaluates the quality of her provision and seeks the views of parents. This helps her to identify her strengths and plan further improvements. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has robust policies and procedures to keep children safe. She has an in-depth understanding of how to recognise and report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder regularly updates herself with local child protection procedures and is aware of wider safeguarding issues.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has created a stimulating learning environment, which includes a well- resourced, attractive playroom. The childminder provides good support to develop children's early literacy and mathematical skills. She has a lively storytelling style which captivates young children's interests and imaginations. They bounce up and down in anticipation of their favourite story lines. Children have many opportunities to make marks during their play. They delight in using chunky chalk sticks to draw lines and pictures in the garden. The childminder skilfully asks questions to encourage children to think more deeply and incite their curiosity. Young children become very excited as the childminder uncovers a new modelling-dough activity. They enthusiastically explore the tools and stamps which cut, shape and decorate the dough.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides strong support to help children develop their health and well- being. Children enjoy fresh air and develop their physical skills during active outdoor play. They kick balls, pedal vehicles and climb slides. They use role-play resources to create interesting games. For example, they dress as firefighters and police officers and race to rescue each other. The childminder regularly visits parks to offer further physical challenge and observes the better than typical levels of balance and confidence of very young children as they balance on rope bridges. The childminder expertly helps young children to understand how they can cooperate and play together happily and safely. She encourages them to talk about their own feelings and how their behaviour might affect others. She consistently models taking turns, sharing and acts of kindness. Children learn about people in their local community and the wider world. They enjoy joining

elderly people at a weekly community lunch.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder and enjoy a close relationship with her. They are gaining a wide range of skills which will help them in their future learning, including their eventual move to school. They behave well and have excellent social skills. Young children offer to help each other and share their toys. Children are eager to play and learn. They use their mathematical skills during play. For example, they divide their modelling dough into 'half' and count above 10 as they cross stepping stones. They recognise colours and inform visitors that they must stop when their toy traffic light is 'on red'.
