Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the signs that could indicate that a child is at risk of harm. She knows how to record her observations and who to contact if she has concerns about a child's well-being. The childminder uses regular risk assessments to identify and minimise any potential risks to children. She welcomes suggestions about how she can further develop and review her practice. The motivated childminder successfully builds on her knowledge and skills. For instance, she has increased her understanding of how to improve the learning activities she plans by accessing training and discussion with other professionals. The childminder keeps parents informed about their children's progress. They comment that they are very happy with the care the childminder provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular summaries of children's learning. These help her to identify any development areas where children may require additional support. The childminder is skilled in helping children to gain communication and language skills. For example, she talks to children as they play and uses baby signing to offer extra visual support. Children learn about how things work as they explore cause-and-effect toys such as the push-and-go tractor and musical toys. Early literacy skills develop as they look at books together. Children enjoy making shakers by putting pasta into bottles, which they shake enthusiastically. This also helps to develop their hand muscles effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a warm and welcoming environment, which successfully contributes to children's well-being. She ensures younger children establish positive relationships and secure attachments. Children enjoy helping the childminder with small tasks, such as tidying away their own toys. This helps children gain skills for independence and encourages them to care for their environment. Children regularly attend sessions at local playgroups, which help them to develop good social skills and establish firm friendships. The childminder gives children's physical well-being a high priority. Children enjoy playing outdoors and benefit from being in the fresh air. The childminder plans a variety of activities and outings that contribute towards their physical health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning. They are learning to listen and talk, control their physical movements and cooperate with others. Children are confident, motivated and enjoy their learning. They are developing good levels of concentration for their age.
