Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder is enthusiastic. She attends training courses and works closely with early years advisers to help her build on her existing good knowledge and skills. The childminder closely tracks children's progress to plan for their next steps for learning and to identify where they may require extra support. Parents are pleased with the care and education their children receive. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection and is confident in the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's safety and welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans a wide range of interesting learning experiences to encourage children's individual interests. She uses effective teaching skills to support children's early language development. For example, young children play with toy animals and the childminder talks to them at their level of understanding. She introduces new words, asks questions and gives children time to think and respond. For example, children talk about the colour and different features of the animals. The childminder also encourages children to pronounce letter sounds correctly. She helps children to extend their play and share their ideas. For instance, she asks children to think about what the animals like to eat. The childminder helps children to build on their mathematical understanding. They begin to confidently count, and name colours and shapes.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop close relationships with the childminder. They learn good manners and show kindness by helping one another as they play. Children learn good hygiene practices and eat healthily. They make good progress in physical development, for instance, they climb and balance on apparatus, and develop ball skills. Children enjoy regular outings to local parks and observe the world around them. They enjoy a wider range of experiences when they attend local pre-school groups and have opportunities to socialise in larger groups. Children join in festival celebrations to help support their understanding of diversity.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop positive attitudes to learning and they make good progress from their starting points. They listen attentively, follow instructions and speak with growing confidence. Children use their imagination well during make-believe play, such as when they make cups of tea. Children gain the skills they need for their next steps for learning and in preparation for moving on to school.
