Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder has established effective partnerships with parents. For example, she exchanges information on a daily basis, so they are well-informed about their child's day. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to keep children safe and knows the action to take if she is concerned about the welfare of a child. The childminder updates her knowledge so it is relevant to the needs of the children in her care. For instance, she uses her experience as a volunteer in a primary school, and has established effective partnerships with other providers, including nursery schools, to enrich children's learning and support continuous development. The childminder uses online networks to keep up-to-date with changes in legislation.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands what children need to achieve and how to support individual children to learn. For instance, she uses a mixture of observations and information from parents to identify gaps in areas of learning, and takes the appropriate action to help close them. The childminder provides activities and resources that reinforce what has previously been learnt. For example, at nursery the children were learning about patterns. The childminder provided resources to support and replicate this in the setting. The childminder provides a language-rich environment and good role modelling skills for the children in her care. For example, she asks open-ended questions and encourages children to problem-solve and enhance their thinking skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a nurturing environment and has formed close bonds with the children. Children are supported to be independent. For instance, the childminder provides plenty of praise and encouragement to enhance children's self-esteem. The childminder ensures children understand they have a voice and supports them to have the courage to use it. For example, when they are anxious or concerned about a situation, children are supported to feel confident to talk to someone they trust. The childminder provides freshly cooked meals that include fruit and vegetables and a selection of healthy snacks. She talks to the children about the benefits of healthy eating to support their understanding of a balanced nutritious diet.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make progress from their starting points. The childminder supports children to be ready for school, providing the skills they need to progress to the next steps in their development. They learn how to communicate with others, share, wait their turn and listen to instruction. Children observe everyday items such as car registration numbers and road signs to help identify familiar letters and numbers and gain a better understanding of forming words.
