This provision is good

n The childminder gives the highest possible priority to supporting children's well-being needs. Children show an immensely strong sense of belonging. The childminder expertly encourages their self-esteem and lays excellent foundations for children to adopt healthy and active lifestyle habits. n The childminder and her co-childminder work effectively as a team. This helps them to meet children's individual needs extremely well and provide children with a calm routine. n The quality of teaching is consistently good. The childminder maintains accurate assessment records of children's abilities and progress. She knows children well and plans activities precisely matched to support children's next steps in their learning. n Children are extremely independent. They put on their coats and shoes and are eager to explore the wealth of activities outside. Children are very well behaved. The childminder sets consistent boundaries for children's behaviour and they demonstrate

exceptionally high levels of confidence and self-assurance. n All children make good progress in relation to their starting points, including those in receipt of funded early education. Older children learn the skills they need for their eventual move on to school. They confidently make decisions, learn to recognise their written name and voice their own opinions and ideas. n The childminder works in close partnership with parents. She regularly shares information with them about their children's learning and development. She forges good links with other settings that children attend, to maintain consistency and continuity in children's learning in the setting and at their home. n The childminder does not use her evaluation process well enough to identify how she can strengthen the quality of her provision to an even higher level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

n continue to develop the existing detailed evaluation procedures and use these even more effectively to raise standards to an outstanding level.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder and her co-childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. n The inspector looked at a range of relevant documentation relating to safeguarding, policies and procedures, and learning and development documents. n The inspector sought the views from parents through discussions and their written feedback.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is committed to obtaining the most up-to-date information from her Local Safeguarding Children Board. This ensures she knows how to act and who to contact should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder reviews her knowledge and updates her training regularly to support her professional development. Overall the childminder reflects on what she does and is motivated to improve the quality of her provision. Effective risk assessments are in place. The childminder checks all areas of her home to ensure they are safe for children to access. Doors to the property are locked and secure when children are present.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans exciting activities for children, based on their individual interests, meaning that children learn and progress well. The childminder and her co-childminder are aware of children's individual learning styles and, as a result, children are well supported to make progress in their learning. For example, they carefully alter their teaching styles for children who may need additional support in communicating confidently. Children develop strong mathematical and problem-solving skills through a range of resources and activities. Older children confidently name shapes such as triangle and oval. The childminder knows children well and uses their interests to involve them in activities. For example, outdoors children hook ducks using fishing rods and identify letters written on them. Younger children explore confidently using a range of containers to transfer water to the sand and soil.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are visibly happy, very engaged and concentrate for long periods in their chosen play. They demonstrate that they are exceptionally settled and extremely happy. For example, they enjoy cuddles when they are upset on arrival and quickly settle. Children enjoy many exciting trips and outings. For example, they attend regular playgroups and visit parks, farms and libraries. This helps children to develop high levels of confidence in social situations. The childminder offers excellent opportunities for children to start to learn about the world. Children are excited as they anticipate the arrival of caterpillars. They observe and discuss how they will grow and turn into butterflies; children are fascinated when the time arrives to see the butterflies released. The childminder successfully teaches children about differences between themselves and others. They learn about an extensive range of festivals and events, including the Hungarian folk

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop their larger physical skills as they run around in the garden and climb on the slide. They recognise the letters in their name and practise early writing skills. Young children explore resources to find out how things work. Children are confident learners and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning and their future transition to school.
