Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder ensures that she and her assistants have a clear understanding about how to keep children safe. They have all completed safeguarding training and know what to do if they have a concern about a child in their care. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder meets with her assistants every week to discuss and review children's progress and what they need to learn next. This also provides a good opportunity to evaluate practice and make ongoing improvements. The team keeps up to date with its professional development and uses what it has learned to benefit the children. For example, following training, the childminder has reviewed and improved many aspects of the available resources and play opportunities, and now provides more sensory activities.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities she knows children will enjoy and they spend much of their time on outings to the beach, public gardens, parks and farms. She and her assistants encourage the children to count steps as they climb and to notice words, numbers and shapes in the environment. In the home, children enjoy matching games and completing puzzles using a touchscreen computer. The childminder adapts the difficulty of the game to each child's ability, providing sufficient challenge while enabling them to achieve. The childminder and her assistants encourage children's developing language skills well. For example, as children play together to make a train track, an assistant introduces new vocabulary, such as 'curved' and 'straight'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistants are good role models for children's behaviour. Consequently, children are polite and are kind to each other. When one child notices another looks unhappy, they gently offer a cuddle. The childminder provides children with healthy, home-cooked meals and lunchtime is a very social occasion. Children manage their cutlery well and eat with gusto. The childminder and her assistants offer good emotional support when children need it. The relationships between the adults and children are strong, enabling each child to feel settled and confident.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and are enthusiastic learners. They experiment with magnetic blocks to make towers, bridges, buildings and cars. Children's enjoyment is evident as they work together to pop all the bubbles from the bubble machine. They learn independence as they choose toys and manage their personal care well. Children learn to share and wait patiently for their turn, developing the skills they need for the next stage of their learning.
