This provision is good

n The childminder understands children's levels of development well. She observes children's learning and plans targeted next steps. She monitors their progress and tracks outcomes. For example, she identifies differences between girls and boys. This helps her to ensure children make good progress from their starting points. n The childminder plans a range of stimulating outings and activities for children. This helps broaden children's experiences of the world around them. For example, they attend Spanish classes and explore stimulating craft activities, such as colour mixing. n Children are happy, settled and demonstrate warm and exceptionally secure relationships with the childminder. The childminder celebrates children as unique individuals. She develops close, nurturing relationships with children and offers resources which help them to feel a strong sense of belonging. This has an extremely positive impact on children's emotional well-being.

This provision is good

n Children develop exceptionally strong social relationships. They are warmly greeted by their peers and familiar adults as they attend community groups which broaden children's understanding of the world around them. Children engage in rich and varied activities which help to develop their vocabulary above their age-related expectations. They confidently engage in conversations, lead games and participate in activities which provide rich opportunities to develop their social skills. n Parents speak highly of the care and education the childminder offers. They value the good communication and feel well informed of their children's progress. Parents say they like the opportunities for children's outdoor learning. However, the childminder does not engage parents as well as she could to find out what children learn at home, in order to better inform the planning for future activities.

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder maintains robust policies and procedures which support good-quality practice. She has rigorous risk assessments in place and knows how to keep children safe, understanding her responsibility to safeguard children from risk and harm. They use resources well to support and extend their learning, such as identification sheets to search for leaves and butterflies. The childminder provides good learning opportunities outdoors. Children enjoy playing ball games and blowing bubbles in the garden. Children are eager to join in with activities and are motivated to learn. For instance, they make marks with paint, developing early writing skills, and enjoy singing familiar songs. For instance, they mimic the actions from a favourite story book to squash tomatoes as they make pizza and they use descriptive language, such as 'hatch', as they crack eggs into bowls.

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder has established exceptionally secure attachments with children. She provides them with a very stable foundation for gaining excellent confidence and self- esteem. For example, she has developed special books which children use with great enthusiasm to talk about the photographs of their loved ones, showing a very strong sense of self and emotional security. Children listen very carefully to the childminder and demonstrate immense respect for others. For instance, they are very gentle and care for animals and one another as they engage deeply in role-play activities. Children gain excellent skills about others beyond their own immediate families and communities. For example, they share relevant cultural experiences, such as Chinese New Year, and teach others how to use chopsticks and share their favourite foods. Children's behaviour is excellent.
