Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about the signs that may indicate children are at risk from harm or neglect. She is fully aware of the procedure for sharing concerns about children in her care. The childminder establishes positive partnerships with parents. She keeps them informed about their children's progress on a regular basis. This helps to ensure continuity of care and learning for all children. The childminder completes regular risk assessments to ensure that children play safely, indoors and outdoors. The childminder has a targeted plan for training to enhance her professional development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder monitors children's progress and provides an exciting range of activities. She tracks children's learning well to enable her to identify if they have any gaps in learning. Children's language and communication are supported very well, including those who are learning to speak other languages. The childminder is skilled at introducing mathematical concepts into children's play. They are eager to participate, for example, using their developing mathematical skills to match number to quantity during a problem-solving game. Children understand about the natural world. For example, they talk about the baby birds and spring flowers, as they walk through the woods. The childminder extends this knowledge as she explains about nocturnal birds and animals.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder acts as a good role model. She is kind and reinforces good manners. She reminds the children about following simple rules, and their behaviour is good. Children make choices about their play, which supports their independence. Children's physical well-being is promoted effectively with opportunities to play in the garden using the trampoline, and regular trips to the local woods. The childminder supports the children to adopt good hygiene practices. For example, she encourages them to wash their hands before meals and when they have been exploring outside. Children are provided with a range of healthy and nutritional snacks and meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for the next stage of learning. They are confident to make choices and decisions independently. Young children begin to learn key skills in mathematics, which will support their next stage of learning. Children are curious and keen to explore, and they show an enjoyment of learning. They develop age-appropriate independence skills, and can communicate their wants and needs.
