p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of what to do if she has a concern about a child's welfare, and she understands the wider aspects of safeguarding. The childminder attends training to keep up to date with legal requirements. The setting is clean and secure. The childminder provides a good range of interesting learning opportunities, indoors and outside. She consults parents about their views on her setting to support her self-evaluation.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder shares information about children's learning with parents. She carefully observes and plans for children's interests and supports them to make choices about their play. For example, babies have opportunities to crawl on grass in the garden as they explore musical toys. The childminder supports children in developing strong communication skills. For example, young children choose toys from a song bag and join in singing nursery rhymes together. The childminder introduces new vocabulary as she plays alongside them, increasing their understanding of words and language. Children have free access to toys and resources which support them to be engaged in learning. For example, children enjoy developing physical skills with their hands, as they explore dough and dry pasta.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Positive interactions help children to build self-confidence and emotional well-being. For example, they begin to learn to play together in a small group around a water tray, sharing resources together. Children learn about keeping healthy and safe. For example, as children wash their hands before snack, the childminder sings a song to accompany the children as they learn to make soapy bubbles. The childminder helps children to learn about safety outside as they take turns climbing up a slide and wear hats and sun- cream protection. The childminder praises the children and they learn to behave well together.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children rapidly develop skills in speaking as they play and learn with each other. They enjoy listening to stories and develop a love of books, which they can choose from independently. They begin to understand mathematical concepts as they pour water and scoop with ladles, filling containers up. Children have good opportunities to develop physically as they move indoors and outdoors, developing confidence as they learn to walk. Babies have space to move around freely, building strength and coordination. Older children learn to enjoy climbing. Children develop personally and socially as they feel secure in the setting. They are familiar in the routines, comfortable in the environment and forge close relationships.
