Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The manager and staff know the signs that might lead to a concern about a child's welfare. They are clear about how to follow local safeguarding procedures. Staff are vigilant about children's health and safety and ensure the premises are clean and tidy. The manager deploys staff effectively and children are properly supervised at all times. Recruitment and supervision systems are thorough and the manager monitors staff performance effectively. There is good support for staff to keep their knowledge and skills up to date. For example, staff attended training to develop resources that provide children with more encouragement to explore and experiment independently. The manager monitors children's learning conscientiously and notices any gaps in their development. She uses funding effectively and seeks support from outside agencies when children need extra help. children to move on to their future education with confidence.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff make precise assessments of children's levels of development and share this information with parents. They plan activities according to children's interests to help them move on in their learning. For example, older children develop good creative skills as they carefully draw maps where pirates have hidden treasure. They talk confidently about their creations, express their ideas and gain good communication and language skills. Staff encourage younger children to point to pictures in their favourite books and repeat words to develop their growing vocabulary effectively. Babies babble along to songs and rhymes, joining in with the actions with delight as they develop their good physical skills and coordination.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff create a warm and welcoming environment for children and families. Children settle quickly and become secure in their familiar routines. Staff help children to learn how to adopt healthy lifestyles. Children enjoy daily fresh air and exercise and help themselves to freshly cooked, nutritious food. Meal times are social occasions and staff support children's social development well. For example, staff sit with all of the children to encourage them to talk about their day and use good manners. Staff and children follow good hygiene routines. Staff ensure that children understand the importance of washing their hands before eating and after messy play. They encourage children to become independent and manage small tasks for themselves, such as tidying away toys.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain the skills necessary for future learning and starting school. Older children concentrate well as they make careful attempts at writing their names and learn to identify the letters of the alphabet. Younger children explore toys and activities with enthusiasm and develop their curiosity and sensory skills as they enjoy learning.
