development catch up quickly. n Two-year-old children demonstrate an extremely secure emotional attachment to the childminder. They have high levels of confidence and self-control, which is fostered by the childminder's excellent support. Children demonstrate enthusiasm and delight in their play activities. n The childminder uses extremely motivating strategies to include parents in their children's learning. She offers them an abundance of information to aid their understanding of how to promote learning for life successfully. For example, she gives them leaflets about how to develop a growth mindset as opposed to a fixed mindset. This is to help children who struggle with challenge and to aid future resilience. n The childminder's safeguarding knowledge is excellent. She makes sure her assistant, who works very occasionally with her, is fully trained in this aspect of his work. Her attention to wider safeguarding issues is woven into her curriculum. For example,

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

The pursuit of excellence by this newly registered childminder is very evident. She consistently puts children at the heart of all that she does. The childminder demonstrates excellent organisational skills with close attention to detail. From the very beginning the childminder had high expectations of herself and others. Her excellent knowledge of the requirements, coupled with her natural skill and ability, results in exemplary care, attention and learning experiences for young children. Her self-evaluation is extensive, rigorous and ongoing, which guarantees her practice continually moves forward. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an extensive knowledge of how to keep children safe from harm. She is watchful for any signs that a child may be at risk of harm and follows correct reporting procedures.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder has an exemplary knowledge of how children learn. She plans a meticulous learning environment, with attention to detail, which completely engages children in deep levels of learning. The childminder observes each child diligently and provides exactly the right expert support, so children's play is long lasting and beneficial. For example, she hides Easter and spring pictures behind small plastic windows for two- year-olds to excitedly open and talk about. She models vocabulary and language superbly. The childminder encourages children to develop all their senses, such as when they smell the distinct spices of a hot cross bun in a closed pot. She hides numbered reels in coloured egg shapes for children to find, talk about, recognise and put in order.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children flourish in the highly stimulating home environment. Their needs are exceptionally well met because the childminder is adept at tuning into young children. She expertly supports children's emotional well-being. For example, children develop a keen sense of belonging when they talk about their photos on her self-registration display. Children receive skilful support in labelling their emotions to aid their understanding and diffuse frustrated behaviours. The childminder plans diverse activities, such as reading Braille together and finding Braille on trips into the community. Children's safety is central to everything the childminder does both at home and on outings. For example, the childminder encourages supervised, risky play in the woods, which is extremely well managed, and ensures exercise and good health activity is woven into each day.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children exceed the expectations for their age. Two-year-olds develop excellent self-care skills such as when they put on their own slippers with minimal support. They spontaneously show well-developed mathematical knowledge. For example, they enthusiastically pick up a friend's slipper, compare it to their own and confidently say 'too big'. Two-year-olds thread cotton reels, make patterns and count accurately beyond five. They talk in clear sentences using well-developed vocabulary and different tenses. Although children enjoy varied media and use it to be expressive and imaginative their opportunities to represent art in other ways is not wholly explored.
