Although the childminder obtains written permission from parents to administer medication, she does not keep a record of medicines she gives to children. The childminder does not ensure that her assistants know the safeguarding policy and procedures. periods. The childminder keeps a record of complaints made. She has a suitable understanding of the changes and events that must be notified to Ofsted. The childminder evaluates her setting and makes positive changes. For example, she has changed the layout of the living room to give children more room to play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a suitable range of resources that reflect children's interests. She uses activities and everyday routines to promote children's understanding of mathematics. For instance, children recognise colours when they are tidying up. The childminder encourages children to think about size, such as objects that are tall. Children enjoy developing storylines during imaginative play. They talk about going on holiday to Spain and travelling there by aeroplane. They are keen to talk about camping trips with their family. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. She sings with them frequently. She models language, repeating what children say and pronouncing words clearly. The childminder monitors children's progress and shares the information with parents. She finds out what children are learning at home and continues this in her setting. For example, the childminder promotes children's

early writing. She helps them to hold a pen properly and to begin to form letters.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Weaknesses in leadership and management mean that children's safety and welfare are not assured. Despite this, children are settled and happy in the childminder's care. They are keen to talk to visitors about their play and activities. Children's relationship with the childminder is good. She is affectionate towards them. She sits with them during activities, talking to them quietly about what they are doing. Children are confident to convey their wants and needs, such as asking for a drink or snack. The childminder teaches them to use good manners. She is polite to them and expects them to do the same. Children behave well. The childminder involves them in routines, such as tidying up, which helps to give them a sense of responsibility. She provides children with plenty of opportunities to play outdoors and exercise in the fresh air.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make expected progress given their starting points. They have good levels of confidence and self-esteem. Children develop independence in personal care routines ready for the move to school. They enjoy visits to places of interests where they learn about their community and the wider world. Children have good social skills, which helps them to build relationships with other children.
