Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of child protection issues and know the procedure to follow if they have a concern about a child. The childminder carries out detailed risk assessments to ensure children are kept safe as they walk to and from school. The home is safe and suitable, and organised well with the needs of children in mind. The childminder values parents' and children's contributions and this helps her build on the good practice already achieved. She adopts a professional approach and provides detailed information for parents about the activities on offer. She warmly welcomes parents on arrival and makes the time to share any information as required.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder encourages children to make choices in their play. For example, children have the opportunity to go outdoors in the garden or to play indoors with a varied range of activities. During the inspection, a group of children were busy exploring how paint changes as they mixed the primary colours to make new colours. The childminder makes the computer available for them to play problem-solving games and to be creative. They thoroughly enjoy the varied range of art and craft activities available. For example, children often choose to make cards, collages and play with the dough. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to play imaginatively with a range of role-play resources and small-world toys, such as dinosaurs and cars. The childminder skilfully builds on children's interests. For example, often children want to learn more about the topics they are working on at school and she supports these interests well.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder adopts a relaxed approach with children and they enjoy her company. They confidently tell her what filling they would like in their sandwich and help themselves to their plates and cups. Snack time is used as a good opportunity for children to sit and socialise, and talk about their day and experiences. Children learn that exercise is good for their bodies and eating healthy foods contributes to their well-being. The childminder offers children a good range of challenging physical equipment to help increase their fitness. There are clear rules to keep children safe in the home and on outings. For example, children learn about road safety and how to use the equipment safely. The childminder and her assistant manage the mixed age group of children well. For example, children learn to be kind to others and the older children are mindful of the needs of the younger children.
