Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder refreshes her child protection training every year. She has a secure understanding of the procedures to follow if she is concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder is beginning to explore ways to support her professional development, such as for learning about the different types of speech and language delay. Since the last inspection the childminder has increased her supply of books and makes good use of these to support children's learning and well-being. The childminder has established good partnership with parents. She is focused on strengthening this even further, for instance by involving them even more fully in planning for children's progress with shapes, letters and sounds more precisely.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses effective processes for assessing, tracking and planning for children's progress. For example, she takes children to the farm, where babies hear animal sounds and older children learn about animal habitats. The childminder engages children in interesting conversations and explains things well to them. For example, children learn why stones are needed underneath soil as they plant sunflower seeds. The childminder encourages older children to trace and copy their name on artwork. Children listen attentively to the childminder's animated storytelling and they enthusiastically contribute their thoughts about what might happen next.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder lays firm foundations for children to adopt healthy and safe lifestyle habits. She provides nutritious snacks and meals and ensures children engage in daily physical exercise. The childminder makes good use of outings to teach children about road safety and how to behave if approached by an off-lead dog. She successfully encourages and targets their progress with personal care, such as putting their coats on and off. The childminder sensitively supports children in gaining self-confidence. She plans activities daily to help them gradually learn to mix with groups of children within the community to help prepare them for moving on to pre-school. The childminder plans activities throughout the year to teach children about different beliefs and traditions, such as Easter and Chinese New Year. She has an excellent supply of books and uses these well to help children understand things they find difficult and to cope with change.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for moving on to nursery school. They develop confidence and show no anxiety when meeting new people. Children develop good speaking skills and very ably express their thoughts and feelings. Children use pencils competently. Babies enjoy making marks with water pens.
