Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues, including the 'Prevent' duty. She has policies in place and knows procedures to follow if she has concerns regarding a child's welfare. She uses robust risk assessments and daily checks to ensure the environment is free from hazards. The childminder supports children in learning how to help themselves to stay safe. For example, they practise evacuation procedures to use in an emergency. They use the Green Cross Code on their walks to and from school. The childminder provides gentle reminders about safety as they play. Children listen well and follow rules. For instance, they use the safety net as they play on the trampoline. The childminder is proactive in extending her knowledge and skills. She has completed several training courses to improve her practice and the provision for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children have fun and enjoy the time they spend at the childminder's home. They learn the routine well and quickly choose and settle at activities they enjoy. The childminder actively engages children in conversations and discussions. She skilfully uses questioning to extend their thinking and learning in an enjoyable manner. The childminder encourages literacy skills as children look at science comics. They read out loud the ingredients needed to make slime. Mathematical concepts are included as they discuss quantities they need and explore the different methods to make other liquid substances. Children have opportunities to extend their imaginative skills as they role play with the dolls and buggies and small-world figures. The childminder updates parents daily about their children's experiences in her care to support a shared care approach.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children play very well together and demonstrate good concentration skills with their chosen activities. The childminder promotes British values such as respect and tolerance throughout her practice. She provides opportunities for children to make choices. For example, they vote to decide if they want to eat their dinner in the garden or inside. The childminder provides nutritious snacks and meals and accommodates children's preferences. She also encourages daily outside play and physical skills to promote healthy lifestyles. Children use the swings, trampoline, play football and ride scooters to develop their physical skills well. Children follow good hygiene practices. They attend to their own toileting needs, and wash their hands after playing outside and before eating food.
