interest in, and understanding of, the world around them. They investigate and explore their surroundings with confidence. n Children spend time playing indoors and outdoors and have regular outings to groups, activities and local attractions. They learn to appreciate and understand their community and they develop social skills as they spend time with children of different ages. n Although children are provided with high-quality toys and resources, they have fewer opportunities to explore and be curious about materials of different textures and functions. n Occasionally, the childminder asks questions and provides children with possible answers without giving them time to think and respond with their own ideas.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a very good knowledge of safeguarding and knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare or development. Policies and procedures are robust and meet legal requirements. Children learn to recognise hazards and dangers. The childminder completes risk assessments to keep children safe in the setting and on outings. Children's achievements are tracked and the information is used to highlight and plan for any gaps in learning. The childminder undertakes professional development activities, which have a positive impact on her practice. She seeks feedback from parents, children, childminder colleagues and other professionals to help improve her provision and shape what she offers for families.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder undertakes observations to make accurate assessments of children's attainments. She uses this information to plan for children's individual needs and to help them achieve their next steps in learning. The childminder ensures that children feel proud of their achievements and celebrates these with parents. She provides real-life experiences to help consolidate children's understanding. For example, after reading a story about a shopping trip, the children create a shopping list and visit a greengrocer to purchase a variety of fruit. They take responsibility for selecting and counting out items and later prepare them for snack. Children talk about how the fruit looks, tastes and smells. The childminder helps children to develop physical skills and to understand and control their bodies. For example, they enthusiastically engage in action rhymes and songs, giggling with joy as they dance together.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works with parents to ensure that she understands and meets children's care and learning needs. She uses an electronic system to share photographs and information about children's achievements and their time with her. Parents are keen to engage and contribute to children's learning records. Children are very well supported to be kind and to understand their emotions. The childminder is an excellent role model who ensures that children feel safe and develop a positive attitude to learning. Children are encouraged to do things for themselves and develop independence. The childminder encourages children to keep trying when they find tasks difficult. This helps them to develop resilience and to cope well when faced with challenges in their learning. Children learn to follow hygiene routines and make healthy choices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children of all ages and stages of development make at least good progress. They develop strong bonds with the childminder and build friendships with their peers. Children show confidence as they move around the setting, selecting and using resources which support their interests. They help with tasks, such as tidying and organising resources. This ensures that children begin to take responsibility and look after their environment. Children are very well supported to develop the skills they need in readiness for school, or the next stage in their learning.
