The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows who to contact should she have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder supervises children carefully. She ensures children's safety. For example, she provides age-appropriate chairs with straps for younger children. The childminder reflects on her practice regularly and encourages parents to share their views about the provision. As a result, she introduces new equipment and toys to extend children's interests.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified. She knows to work with other professionals to help close any gaps in children's learning. The childminder plans a wide range of activities for children to enjoy each day. Children engage in meaningful play and concentrate on activities of their choosing. They use small mirrors to examine their own faces. The childminder asks them carefully considered questions about what makes them unique. This prompts children to comment on their hair and eye colour. The childminder provides different coloured dough so that children can create self-portraits based on their observations. With support from the childminder, children begin to learn about their similarities and differences. The childminder facilitates children's learning by providing resources based on children's individual interests. their favourite characters from the show. The childminder demonstrates how to manipulate the pieces in order to fit them into the puzzle. Children are proud of their efforts once the puzzle is completed.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model and places a strong emphasis on developing children's personal, social and emotional development. Children benefit from regular praise and encouragement for their achievements. Consequently, children behave very well while they are with the childminder. Children of different ages play well together. They use good manners and listen carefully to the childminder's instructions. The childminder teaches children to be independent and to manage age-appropriate tasks for themselves. This supports children's readiness for school. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. Children follow good hygiene routines and benefit from nutritious meals and snacks. The childminder offers plenty of fresh air and exercise in her well- resourced garden area. This supports children's overall physical development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children reach appropriate levels of learning while they are with the childminder, and some exceed typical levels of development. Children preparing to start school develop the skills to write their own name and confidently talk to visitors. Younger children make friends with their peers and communicate fluently. Children independently explore the playroom and resources. They listen well to the childminder and show that they can concentrate on activities for long periods. Children gain new skills and build on what they can already do.
