Inspection activities n The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by children. n The inspector viewed relevant documentation, including evidence of paediatric first-aid training and public liability insurance. n The inspector asked the childminder and her assistant questions throughout the inspection to establish their understanding of how to safeguard children, and how the childminder monitors children's learning and development. n The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children and considered the impact on their learning. n The inspector sampled written feedback from parents about the childminder's service and discussed with the childminder how she evaluates her provision to bring about improvements.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding matters and know what to do if they have concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder is dedicated to continually developing her practice. She uses self-evaluation successfully to identify areas for improvement. For example, she has plans in place to develop the garden, to include a mud kitchen and digging area to enhance children's sensory experiences. She supports her assistant extremely well. They regularly meet to discuss practice issues and she offers her guidance and support on how to develop her teaching skills and interactions with children. The childminder and her assistant are committed to their ongoing professional development. They ensure that they read professional magazines and use online forums to gain ideas for activities to help keep children motivated and interested to learn.

p.3

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

However, opportunities to pursue a range of options to enhance their professional knowledge even further are still ongoing.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder provides highly stimulating learning experiences that captivate children and motivate them to learn. Children eagerly engage in extensive activities to develop their understanding of the wider world. For example, they place food in the garden so that they can watch birds of prey swooping down to pick this up. The childminder uses children's interests to develop their learning further. For example, she reads books to them about birds and their chicks and making bird feeders. She uses children's natural curiosity to extend their learning further. For instance, she uses the internet so that children can watch birds feeding their chicks in the nest. Children show great curiosity and ask the childminder questions, including about what the birds and chicks are doing and the sounds they make. The childminder explains that the chicks are chirping as they are hungry and therefore the adult birds are feeding them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children thrive in the exceptionally well-resourced setting and explore the environment with confidence and ease. The childminder is dedicated to teaching children how to keep themselves safe. For example, as she reads stories to them, she explains that although the birds are eating berries from bushes, they must not do this, as they may get a 'sore tummy'. She is passionate in ensuring that children lead healthy lifestyles. For instance, she ensures that they have an abundance of opportunities for fresh air and exercise, including regular visits to the woods to build dens and explore the outdoors.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make rapid progress in preparation for their future learning, including school. They are self-motivated and make independent choices about their play. They demonstrate high levels of confidence in speaking and listening, for example, when they have complex discussions with the childminder about their past experiences and people who are familiar to them. From a young age, they learn to recognise their names and are beginning to practise writing these. Babies eagerly explore musical toys and natural resources. All children are curious to learn and ask questions to find out new things.
