Children form strong bonds with the childminder. They are comfortable to approach her for support and comfort. n The childminder closely monitors children's progress. She identifies areas where they are at risk of falling behind. She discusses her concerns with parents and makes referrals to the appropriate professionals. The well-coordinated strategies help children to catch up with their peers. As a result, all children make good progress. n The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their literacy skills. For instance, younger children enjoy mark-making activities. They show delight when they observe the patterns they make. Older children explore letters and the sounds they represent. Children frequently sing as they play.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder confidently describes a range of signs of potential abuse. She clearly explains the procedure to follow if she has concerns. The childminder completes detailed assessments to minimise risks to children's safety without compromising their natural desire to explore. This further helps her to keep children safe. The childminder meets regularly with other childminders in the area. They share good practice and new ideas. This helps her to evaluate her practice and keep it fresh. The childminder is keen to continue her professional development. She accesses further training to build on her existing skills and enhance children's learning experiences. On the whole, the childminder develops good relationships with parents and other providers. Parents speak highly of the childminder and praise her for the quality of care she provides. They value the information about supporting their children's learning and

development at home. For example, strategies to help children develop their speech.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, the childminder provides a good range of activities to help children develop in all areas of learning. For example, she uses descriptive language of 'squishy' and 'smooth' as children enjoy exploring paint. Children show fascination as they experiment with mixing paint together to create new colours. The childminder skilfully uses children's interest in jigsaws to support them to learn about difference in others. For instance, they discuss the variances in hair styles and clothes children are wearing. Children persevere and show delight when they successfully fit pieces into the correct places. As children play with model animals, they confidently talk about size, such as 'little' penguin and 'big' tiger. Children eagerly use their hands to dig for dinosaurs buried in sand. The childminder encourages them to count the number they find.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder ensures children follow consistent hygiene procedures, such as washing their hands before eating and after messy play. Children learn the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle. They choose from a range of healthy snacks. They have frequent opportunities to be active in the fresh air. For example, they wave wands in the air to make bubbles and excitedly chase them round the garden. The childminder provides opportunities for children to access more physically demanding activities. For instance, they relish the challenge of using play equipment in local parks and indoor centres. Children begin to gain an understanding of celebrations in other cultures, such as exploring Chinese New Year.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing the key skills they need for their next stage of learning. They prepare their own snacks. They take responsibility for washing paintbrushes after they have finished using them. Children are confident, inquisitive learners. For example, they try to work out how to get seals off the top of bottles of bubble mixture. They giggle as they discover that bottles with curved bottoms do not stand up. They happily invite visitors to join in with their play.
