Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of her role in keeping children safe. She has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow if she has any concerns regarding children's welfare. The childminder ensures that her home is safe and secure for children to play in. For example, she completes daily risk assessments of her home and garden area. She provides a thorough induction procedure for parents. This helps parents to feel reassured and supports children to settle quickly into their daily routine. The childminder encourages parents to play an active role in their children's learning. For example, they share information from home to help her to tailor the children's care and learning to meet their individual needs. The childminder ensures that documentation, including policies and procedures and written permission from parents, is in place.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder regularly makes observations of children to capture their achievements and identify their next steps in learning. She plans exciting activities that complement children's learning needs and interests. For example, children model the coloured dough as they make pretend fruit, and the childminder teaches them about the red strawberries and green grapes that they have eaten for snack. The childminder promotes children's mathematical skills well. For example, they enjoy finding big and little cutters for the coloured dough and counting the number of beads on the abacus. Children are confident and self-assured learners.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming and homely environment, where children are happy and settled. Children have daily opportunities to be outdoors and to develop some physical skills. For instance, children enjoy throwing and catching the ball and balancing on the tyres. The childminder helps to promote children's independence effectively. They learn to put on their own coats and shoes and wash their hands ready for mealtimes. The childminder provides children with healthy snacks and promotes healthy eating. She actively encourages children to try new food and extend their tastes. This helps to support children's good health.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy reading stories and reciting familiar nursery rhymes. They confidently ask questions and join in conversations with visitors. Children learn persistence, for example as they attempt to fit puzzle shapes into the matching space. They make progress in all areas of learning and work comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. Children are developing the skills and attitudes they need for the future and are well prepared for school.
