This provision is outstanding

n The childminder shows a passion and commitment for delivering the best possible service for children and their families. She has a clear vision for the future and has highly successful ways to monitor the effectiveness of her provision. For example, she views the environment from the height of a child to see if they are able to easily access resources to promote their interests. n The childminder provides superb opportunities for children to be physically active in this highly stimulating environment, indoors and outdoors. Younger children have excellent opportunities to manage risks and to test their physical abilities. For example, they learn to safely pick up and transport large logs and tell the childminder, 'I am strong'. n The childminder builds exceptional partnership with parents. She provides them with information about planned activities and what their children need to learn next. As a result, there is a highly supportive approach to children's learning.

She skilfully uses a range of innovative approaches. The childminder ensures that all children make excellent progress in their speaking skills. n The childminder and her assistant place a high priority on supporting children to develop their mathematical skills. They differentiate activities to tailor learning to the different ages of the children. For example, they ask younger children to recognise numbers and older children to count groups of objects. Children make rapid progress in their ability to understand numbers. n Children are exceptionally confident, self-assured and emotionally secure. The childminder places a high value on the information she receives from parents about their children's care and prior learning. She visits children in their homes prior to

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant confidently identify signs and symptoms of abuse and know the correct procedures for reporting any concerns about a child, or adult working with children. The childminder supports her assistant extremely well. For example, she encourages her to reflect on her own practice and to identify how to maintain consistently high-quality teaching. Consequently, children achieve the highest outcomes. The childminder's superb reflection on her own practice enables her to identify how she intends to extend opportunities for children to develop their understanding of technology. For example, learning how to use more complex computer programs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder is experienced and has excellent knowledge of how children learn. She uses precise observation and assessments to provide experiences and activities that are skilfully adapted to meet children's individual learning needs. She provides a rich and imaginative educational programme, which enables children to thrive in their learning. For example, when children show an interest in space, the childminder takes them to a space museum to extend their interests. She asks children to pretend to be in a space rocket. Children count backwards from 10, jump in the air and say 'blast off'. They demonstrate excellent imagination. The childminder motivates and challenges children at every opportunity to extend their learning. For example, when children use blocks to make a vehicle, the childminder supports them to use rulers and to use language in relation to measurement. This enables children to extend their understanding of

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder promotes diversity within all aspects of her practice. For example, children learn about other cultures and festivals as well as their own. The childminder provides superb and original opportunities for children to develop their understanding of differences in others. For example, she encourages children and their families to contribute to food packages to pass on to organisations that support the homeless. Children's behaviour is excellent. They listen carefully to instructions and learn to share and take turns.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make the highest levels of achievement in all areas of their learning and development in readiness for school. Young children maintain concentration during activities exceptionally well, especially when they listen to stories. Children work extremely well together. For example, when they use pulleys to lift objects into the air, older children say to younger children, 'It looks like you need a helping hand'. They make excellent rates of progress in their social skills.
