Outcomes for children Requires improvement
p.1
This is a provision that requires improvement
n The childminder does not evaluate all aspects of her provision effectively. Therefore, she does not recognise the areas that require development. n The childminder cannot demonstrate that the professional development programme she accesses raises the quality of her provision or has a positive impact for children. n The childminder does not always complete accurate observations of the children's learning. She does not consistently link her observations to the activities that she plans for the children. The childminder does not ensure that the planned play activities help children to learn and develop new knowledge or skills. n The childminder does not use information from parents about what their children can already do when they start at her setting. Consequently, she cannot accurately describe children's progress. n The childminder does not always fully complete some of the records about children's

accidents and medication. This could compromise children's safety and welfare. n The childminder does not consistently promote good hygiene practices with the children such as handwashing before meals and snacks.
p.1
It has the following strengths
n Children enjoy coming to the childminder's warm, welcoming and well-resourced home. The childminder and her assistant are good role models for the children. Their calm and responsive natures help children feel safe and secure. n The childminder teaches children basic skills and knowledge through child-initiated activities. n Children are achieving typically expected development and are acquiring the skills that they require to succeed at school or in the next stage of their learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date ensure the maintenance of accurate records that help to meet all children's needs, in this case the consistent completion of accident and medication forms 12/04/2019

ensure all reasonable steps are taken to protect children from risks, such as promoting good hygiene practices to minimise the risk of cross-contamination. 12/04/2019
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

n improve the evaluation of the setting, ensuring that this includes the views of parents and children and that information is used effectively to inform the areas for development within the provision n plan professional development based on identified areas of practice which require improvement and ensure that this has a positive impact on children's learning and development n develop observation, assessment and planning methods that identify what children already know, what will challenge them further, and how to accurately assess the impact of teaching.
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
Inspection activities n The inspector observed the areas of the childminder's home that children use. n The inspector observed activities that the childminder had planned and discussed these with the childminder. n The inspector observed a sample of documentation, including some written policies and procedures, and children's records of development. n The inspector observed the childminder and her assistant interacting with the children. n The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant and the children at appropriate times during the inspection, and observed written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding arrangements are effective and supported by the childminder's appropriate policy and procedures. The childminder promotes equality and diversity with the children, encouraging them to recognise and celebrate differences. She does not monitor the impact of teaching on children's development, including the teaching practice of her assistant. The childminder does not demonstrate high expectations for the children attending her setting or for the continuous improvement of the quality of her provision. She does not actively include parents in the evaluation of her setting. Nor does the childminder ask parents to share what they know about their own children's development to help inform initial assessments.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder sometimes extends children's learning. For example, when reading a well-loved story, the childminder models language and introduces props for the children to use. This helps children to understand the basic concept of the life cycle of a caterpillar. However, the quality of teaching is not consistent. The childminder does not always demonstrate a sound understanding of how to challenge children's learning as she does not accurately assess the impact of her teaching. Some activities that the childminder plans are inappropriate and do not interest children. There are also missed opportunities to further support children's learning while they wait for daily routines to be undertaken. For example, children sit and wait for lunch to be served with very little interaction from the adults present.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder demonstrates appropriately secure and responsive relationships with the children. The childminder supports children to behave well, and to look after the resources available in the setting. Mealtimes are sociable occasions. The childminder sits near to the children to support good manners and conversation. However, the seating arrangement that the childminder provides for the children does not encourage their independence. The food that the childminder offers to children is not always nutritionally balanced.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
The childminder does not understand her own procedures for recording children's development. Therefore, the assessments she makes are inaccurate. Despite this, children are making appropriate progress. Parents speak highly of the childminder and say that she has made a positive contribution towards the progress that their children make.
