Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the possible signs that indicate that children may be at risk of harm. She knows how to take swift action to protect children's welfare in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder completes training and discusses good practice with other childminders to continue to enhance her knowledge and skills. Recent training has further improved the way she records and reviews children's progress. This means that she swiftly identifies and addresses any possible gaps in their learning. Secure partnerships with other providers that children attend fully support children's continuity of learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's detailed observations and assessments of children's learning help to inform her flexible planning. Children are inquisitive individuals who are motivated to learn. They experiment mixing different coloured paint together to create a new colour. Children work out, through trial and error, that they need to squeeze a large amount of dough into the bottom of their pot for their stem of flowers to stand upright. The childminder's enthusiastic use of questions helps to extend children's language skills. Children use complex sentences and their vivid imagination to talk about flying to their friend's house in a helicopter.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a welcoming environment where children swiftly settle. Her genuine praise for children's achievements helps to enhance their self-esteem. Children are independent for their age. They follow a good hygiene routine and confidently manage their own personal needs. Children show a good understanding of similarities and differences. For instance, they compare and talk about the colour of each other's eyes. The childminder provides children very good opportunities that challenge them to assess their own risks and build strength and stamina. For example, they thoroughly enjoy jumping in puddles and carefully use large apparatus at the local park.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children count, identify some numbers and use mathematical language, such as 'a lot' and 'more'. They recognise the letters in their name and identify the same letters on signs that they see on outings in the local environment with the childminder. Children make good progress and gain the skills needed to help prepare them for their future learning at school.
