n Teaching is inspirational. The childminder skilfully maximises every opportunity to teach children through their play, planned activities, exploration and routines. Children make rapid progress in the majority of their learning. n The childminder has developed highly effective ways to help children settle in. She offers visits to children's homes at parents' request and also a variety of different settling-in sessions at her setting. Parents are extremely happy with this and feel the childminder 'goes above and beyond her role to acknowledge and meet children's individual needs'. n The childminder completes sharp, precise and regular assessments of children's development and progress. She shares these continuously with parents and gathers their feedback to help her to plan challenging next steps for children. n The childminder provides an exceptionally stimulating, safe environment indoors and outdoors for children. Resources reflect and capture children's interest and motivate

them to learn wherever they choose to play. Children consistently show high levels of engagement in all experiences. n The childminder has established highly effective partnership working with other settings that children attend, including schools. She has thorough procedures to help her to share highly detailed information about children's needs and progress. Children are exceptionally well prepared for the next stages in their learning. n The childminder has a focused programme of professional development. She continually develops her skills and knowledge to meet children's needs and support them to achieve to their full potential. n The childminder gathers feedback from older children and responds to this to help her to enhance her provision. This helps children to feel valued and provides opportunities for them to express their views and be heard. They are very complimentary and describe her as 'the best childminder ever'.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder strives to maintain excellence. She is highly qualified, experienced and has a thorough understanding of the early years foundation stage. For example, the childminder has researched strategies for supporting children's mathematical development and has implemented these throughout their play and within the environment. This has had a huge impact on young children's progress, for example, they accurately add small numbers together and recognise numerals beyond six. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough understanding of wider child protection issues and robust procedures to follow if she has concerns about children. She uses opportunities during play to help children to learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, children use their chalk drawings of traffic lights to identify when they need to stop at the 'road'. The childminder has excellent relationships with children's parents.

p.3

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

She is currently obtaining their views on ways to share assessments.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder provides children with exciting, stimulating and challenging activities, which enthuse and engage them in their learning. She meticulously plans and prepares the environment based on her observations of children's interests and assessments of their progress. Children are highly motivated and have exceptional levels of language and understanding. For example, during a planned activity they develop their physical skills and mathematical awareness as they catch fish with specific numerals attached. Children begin exploring which objects float and which sink and the childminder extends this into an investigation. They are enthralled and provide advanced, accurate reasoning as to why the items might sink. Outdoors, the childminder encourages young children to continue to link their learning as they demonstrate excellent early writing skills and copy numerals onto the easel. Parents share information about children's interests and are

extremely pleased about the progress that children make with the childminder.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder is highly responsive to children's needs and provides excellent levels of care for them. This has an extremely positive impact on children's emotional well-being and they show that they feel very safe and secure in her care. The childminder is an excellent role model for children. She gently reminds them to be well mannered and encourages them to have the highest levels of independence. Young children prepare their own snack and use the knife safely to chop fresh banana. They talk to the childminder about germs and take a fully active part in their own self-care. Children know to put their coats and shoes on to go outdoors and do this with minimal support. Their behaviour is exceptional for their age.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make outstanding progress in relation to their starting points. Young children show advanced literacy and mathematical development. From an early age they develop the skills that they need to start school and show high levels of confidence in their own ability. Children have excellent levels of self-esteem and demonstrate emerging confidence in new social situations.
