This provision is inadequate

n The childminder has not completed the required Disclosure and Barring Service checks on all adult members of her household. She has not provided Ofsted with additional information to enable suitability checks to be completed. n Children are not supervised at all times. The childminder sometimes leaves the children in the care of a person who has not been suitably vetted and who is not registered as an assistant. This means she cannot keep children safe. n The childminder fails to keep a written record of any accidents to children when they are in her care. This puts children's well-being at risk. n The childminder does not share information about children's learning and development with parents. This does not give parents enough information to help them to continue their children's learning at home. n The childminder does not complete accurate assessments of children's progress. This means that she does not identify all gaps in children's learning or have the information

she needs to plan successfully for their future learning.

p.1

It has the following strengths

n The childminder uses praise effectively to encourage younger children to complete tasks and achieve their goal. n The childminder supports children's physical development effectively. Babies show good coordination and control of their bodies. For example, they use walkers to practise the skills they need to become mobile.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector had a tour of the premises. n The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector jointly evaluated the quality of teaching with the childminder. n The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children present. She spoke with the children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate

Safeguarding is ineffective. The childminder does not fully consider how to keep children safe at all times. For example, at times, she has left minded children with a family member while she goes out. This person is not an assistant or has been suitably vetted. The childminder does not update Disclosure and Barring Service checks when requested by Ofsted. The childminder knows the reporting procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child's safety or if an allegation is made about a person living on the premises. The childminder does not keep her skills and knowledge up to date. As a result, the quality of teaching is poor and children do not make the progress they are capable of.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

The childminder does not use the information gained from observations effectively to plan meaningful activities for the children. Assessments of children's progress are not accurate. This means that the childminder is not aware of what stage children are at in their development, or what they need to learn next. The childminder does not share information with parents about their children's progress. Consequently, parents are not given information to help build on their children's learning at home. The childminder does not complete and share the required progress checks for children aged between two and three years. Generally, the childminder is attentive to children as they play and joins in with their activities.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

Weaknesses identified in leadership and management mean that children are not kept safe. The childminder fails to keep written records of accidents within her home, as required. This puts children's well-being at risk. Nonetheless, the childminder is kind and caring towards the children and develops positive relationships with them. Children behave well as the childminder supports and encourages them to follow the rules and boundaries. The childminder sits on the floor with the children and they giggle together as they play peekaboo. Children benefit from daily fresh air and visits to places of interest in the local area, such as trips to local parks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are inadequate

Due to the weaknesses in planning and assessment children do not make the progress they are capable of. This means that some children are not acquiring all the skills required in preparation for their next stage of learning. Despite this, children do learn some skills. They are able to play independently, choosing resources that interest them.
