p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities for keeping children safe. She has a good understanding of how to recognise and respond to concerns about children's welfare. She completes training to update and extend her knowledge of wider safeguarding issues. Checks are completed on her home to ensure potential risks are minimised. Children are appropriately supervised both indoors and when on outings. The childminder accesses online training to keep her skills and knowledge up to date and relevant. She evaluates and reflects on her practice to improve the quality of care for children. For example, she makes changes to activities to keep children engaged and motivated.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder takes children's interests and next steps for learning into consideration when planning activities. She recognises where children may need additional support and sensitively provides this. As a result, children enjoy play and acquire new skills. For instance, children persist, concentrate and develop increasing fine motor skills as they join tracks together for their vehicles. The childminder is skilled at developing children's mathematical understanding. For example, she encourages children to count objects and discuss size and shape as they play with picture cards and jigsaw puzzles.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder obtains detailed information from parents when children first attend. She knows children's preferences and care needs and helps them to feel assured. Children are taken to participate in group activities in local toddler groups. This gives them opportunities to explore different environments and resources. As well as promoting their learning, this helps them to gain invaluable social skills to prepare them for school. Children are encouraged to be active and engage in physical play both in the setting and when they participate in trips to the local parks. They enjoy outings and visits in the local community and gain an awareness of the world around them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from the starting points in their learning. They are gaining the necessary skills to make a positive start at nursery and school. They are increasingly independent and confidently make choices and decisions about their play. Their understanding of mathematics is developing well. For example, they correctly count objects and recognise numerals as they play.
