Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident to recognise and respond to any signs that may indicate a child is at risk from harm. She risk assesses her home to help to keep children safe. She removes or reduces any potential hazards effectively. The childminder has systems to record children's attendance. However, sometimes records are not kept up to date with accurate information of children's arrival and departure times. Nevertheless, the childminder closely supervises children and ratios are maintained. Consequently, occasional lapses in some record-keeping do not immediately compromise children's safety. The childminder holds a valid first-aid certificate and understands how to respond to accidents in a swift and appropriate manner. However, she does not know that she is required to complete a written record of any accidents and first-aid treatment given to children, to fully promote their welfare. Overall, children

remain safe and secure when in the childminder's care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder ensures her setting is appropriately organised to meet children's needs. For example, older children are provided with a place to rest and play quietly, after a busy day at school. The childminder is a good role model. She plays with children, joins in their games and supports their learning. For example, children discuss 'bigger' and 'taller' concepts when they build an imaginary castle from toy bricks. Children develop their mathematical skills as they play. The childminder provides a wide range of toys to interest and enthuse children. Furthermore, children explore a variety of interesting, new places on trips and outings, particularly during school holidays. Children enjoy a broad programme of play and learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children are happy, relaxed and content in this calm setting. They demonstrate they are independent and confident as they select toys and make decisions about their play. Hygiene practices are established and children thoroughly wash their hands at appropriate times. This helps to promote children's health and well-being. The childminder does not consistently use effective strategies to promote children's positive behaviour. For example, occasionally children use negative language and the childminder does not respond. Children do not fully learn the importance of being respectful and polite. Despite this, the childminder creates a friendly and lively setting. She is very welcoming and treats children as part of her family. Children are happy and emotionally reassured by the positive relationships they share with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good all-round progress. They have a positive attitude to their play and are motivated to participate in activities. Children hold pens and draw with precision. They give meaning to their marks and demonstrate good early writing skills. For example, they discuss drawing a castle. Children are creative. They make sense of the world around them and develop their ideas as they become increasingly involved in imaginative games. For example, children make-believe with small toy characters and action figures. Children prepare well for the next stage in their learning.
