This provision is good

n Children benefit from a welcoming and nurturing environment. They settle readily, make friends and play together harmoniously. n The childminder checks the progress of each child and provides well-targeted support to help individual children learn well. Children make good progress in relation to their individual starting points and capabilities. They are well prepared for the next stages of their learning and development, including starting school. n The childminder works well in partnerships with parents. For example, regular informal discussions and reports help to support good continuity of learning and development for all children. Parents know how to support their children's learning at home. n The childminder makes good use of training courses and links with the local support network to develop her knowledge and skills and to improve her practice. n Occasionally, the childminder does not offer enough challenges to further extend older

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the childminder and children playing. n The inspector sampled the childminder's policies, procedures, risk assessments and children's development records. n The inspector discussed the childminder's procedures to safeguard children, and her process for reflecting on her practice, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. n The inspector took into account the comments and suggestions of parents and children.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child in her care. She undertakes regular and robust checks on her home to help children remain safe. She has addressed the recommendations set at the previous inspection. This has led to further improvements in children's learning and development. This is evident in the way that she provides children with good opportunities to increase their creativity and curiosity. The childminder seeks the views and suggestions of parents, children and others to consistently improve her service.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gains relevant information from parents about what their children know and can do. She has a good knowledge of individual children through her observations and regular assessments of their skills to inform future planning. The childminder introduces children to new activities and shows them how to use resources with care. Children engage well in new experiences. Young children explore musical toys and listen to the sounds they make. Older children use construction tools to purposefully build their favourite models. The childminder reads stories to children and supports their speaking and listening skills effectively. Children make good comments on their favourite pictures and events.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder is an excellent role model for the children. She is exceptionally kind, caring and thoughtful. Children are very self-assured and cooperative. The childminder is very sensitive to the needs of all children and responds with enthusiasm to their needs and interests. Children feel highly valued and develop a very good sense of belonging. Their behaviour is excellent. Young children learn to manage small tasks independently. The childminder talks to children about the importance of safety, such as strapping seat belts when placing baby dolls in pushchairs. Children enjoy healthy snacks and develop a very good understanding of personal hygiene. Through outings, children acquire a very good knowledge about the different cultures in the local community.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy their time at the setting and are achieving well overall. Young children socialise well with others. Children listen carefully and learn to respond to instructions. They use different writing resources to support their early writing skills. Children eagerly go on 'a bug hunt' in the garden to look for 'creepy crawlers'. They are aware of the changes that happen to the natural world around them. Children enjoy the outdoors and can climb the apparatus and slide safely.
