Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder is extremely professional throughout all aspects of her practice. She has exceptionally strong partnerships with parents. They receive ongoing, detailed information about their child's care and learning, and receive excellent support to help them continue their children's learning at home. Links with home are reinforced as children share books containing photographs of their family, interests and pets. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands how to protect children from harm. She is aware of the local child protection procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child. She is highly vigilant as children play and carries out rigorous safety assessments at her premises and during outings. For example, she checks the suitability of new walking routes and premises before visiting with children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder makes excellent use of play activities to develop children's language and communication skills. She enthusiastically commentates as children play and encourages good eye contact as children listen and speak. The childminder strongly focuses on the development of children's sensory skills. She plans activities which capture the imagination of children of all ages. For example, babies are fascinated by a large tub of coloured rice. They explore the feel, smell and taste, and become deeply involved in pouring and tipping. Older children enjoy mixing the rice with their hands and feet to make marks and create patterns. They read numbers on weighing scales and exclaim how much 'it weighs'.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder plans specific activities and resources to rapidly develop children's physical skills. For example, babies delight in handling musical instruments. They are intrigued to discover how they can stretch and manipulate bracelets as they excitedly investigate the contents of the 'jewellery basket'. The childminder provides children with healthy, well-balanced meals and snacks and helps them to consistently follow hygiene routines. Children enjoy learning about their local community as they visit groups, parks and farms. The childminder expertly includes experiences and languages from home to teach children about others and reinforce their self-identity. The childminder has identified plans to further enhance children's understanding of diversity and different communities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children thrive and make excellent progress. All are developing a wide range of skills typical for their age and some exceed this. They receive exceptional preparation for their later learning, including school. Babies are extremely curious about the world around them and are fascinated by how things work. Young children recognise numbers and enjoy counting in English and Spanish. All children, including the youngest children, confidently try new activities. They concentrate at length and are tremendously successful at developing their own ideas and ways of doing things. Children listen attentively to stories and join in with familiar lines. Babies carefully turn pages and babble about what they see.
