She updates her teaching knowledge well, which has improved how she supports children's literacy development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Babies settle rapidly and play in a welcoming, friendly environment. The childminder plans activities that reflect children's interests and their next steps in learning. Babies enjoy exploring a range of natural materials that hold their interest and develop their concentration skills. The childminder develops children's communication and language skills well. For example, she comments on children's play, describing what they are doing, and introduces songs and rhymes. Babies have opportunities to develop their physical skills during play, such as exploring dried oats, rolling over and reaching out for toys. Children develop a good understanding of suitable hygiene practices, for instance, as they follow the daily handwashing routines.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder supports young children effectively to develop good personal, social and emotional skills. Babies develop close bonds with the childminder. They snuggle into her for cuddles, and giggle with delight when she tickles them with a soft toy. Children benefit from daily outings to parks and childminder groups, where they can be physically active and socialise with their peers. The childminder teaches children how to keep themselves safe. For example, she discusses this when children are playing on large apparatus in the park and using the pedestrian crossing. Children comment they love spending time with the childminder and enjoy the activities she provides. Children behave well, take turns and are respectful of each other.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their individual starting points. Babies are happy, active and show interest in their play. They use babbling, body language and emotions to express themselves. All children develop a good range of physical skills using their large- and small-muscle movements. Babies develop muscle control while holding shakers and experiencing the textures of natural materials. Children are well prepared for their next stages in learning.
