The childminder undertakes regular safeguarding training and makes sure that her knowledge and understanding are always up to date. p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses effective teaching strategies to help children to learn. For example, she shows them how to do things and then encourages them to try for themselves. Young children demonstrate a good understanding of counting and using numbers and the childminder supports this aspect of their learning effectively. For instance, they count dinosaurs in a book. Children confidently count to ten independently. During adult-led activities, the childminder interacts well with children and provides suitably challenging experiences, to help them to concentrate and persevere. For example, young children learn how to use a glue stick as they start to make marks and understand their marks have meaning.

Children learn about positive hygiene habits, such as washing their hands. Children develop independence skills, such as feeding themselves and when using the toilet. The childminder supports children to develop a good understanding of appropriate behaviours. For example, she teaches them about tidying toys carefully after use. Children are confident to ask for help when needed, for instance when they try to pick up small pieces to make cards.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain skills that prepare them well for the next stage of their learning and the eventual move on to school. For example, they are confident and keen to learn. Children demonstrate good coordination and control when they use equipment. For instance, they are able to use fine glue sticks confidently and with accuracy. Children learn to be confident at carrying out age-appropriate tasks independently.
