Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She engages children and plans activities purposefully to support their individual needs. For example, she supports their dexterity and physical development as they roll out and shape dough with their fingers. The childminder uses questioning effectively. She encourages children to describe the different feelings of the characters from a story. They are given time to think and answer while they lead their own imaginative play. Children have fun as they learn. They relish the opportunities to play with the interesting activities that the childminder plans for them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's awareness of healthy lifestyles. They enjoy regular outings to areas of interest and nutritious home-cooked meals. Children have developed secure and close attachments with the childminder. She gathers detailed information from parents when children first start. This ensures that children settle in quickly and benefit from consistent experiences at home and in the setting. New children settle into the calm and nurturing environment well. Children enjoy spending time with their friends in the childminder's welcoming home.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points and are gaining the skills needed for future learning and school. Children are confident and motivated learners. Children learn about how to use technology, such as requesting songs to be played on an electronic device. They then join in with the rhymes and actions of familiar songs. This helps to develop children's understanding of how technology works, as well as supporting their early literacy skills. The childminder has regular discussions with children about the wider world in which they live. She helps to promote their understanding about the differences between themselves and others.
