Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible indicators that a child is at risk of harm, including from radicalisation. She takes prompt action to protect children, contacting the appropriate agencies when she is concerned. The childminder evaluates her practice effectively to identify areas for development. She has completed a local quality assurance scheme to help her reflect on the effectiveness of her provision. The childminder updates her knowledge and skills through training and research. Following training, she has altered the way in which she uses her assessments of children's progress to identify and plan for their next steps. This has helped her to meet children's learning needs more effectively. The childminder works in effective partnership with other settings, such as schools, to provide a joined-up approach to supporting children's development. Her son and daughter occasionally act as her

assistants. The childminder supervises them at all times to ensure the quality of teaching and care is maintained.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses effective teaching techniques to support children's learning. She engages their interest as she reads stories with enthusiasm and uses picture cards to encourage them to select which songs they would like to sing. The childminder provides good support for children's communication skills. She attends a group which gives her ideas of how to develop children's language development and shares this information with parents so that they can use them at home. The childminder encourages children to persevere with trying new experiences, such as getting used to water splashing on their face as they play. She offers plenty of praise and encouragement to build children's sense of achievement, such as telling them how well they are speaking English.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder takes care to meet children's individual needs, such as providing gluten- free snacks for those with food intolerances. She also follows parental wishes with regards to sleeping so that children's routines are not disrupted. The childminder encourages children to learn about, and respect, each other's backgrounds. She celebrates festivals that are special for them and their families. She also takes children out in the local community to learn about the world around them and to meet other children. The childminder has gained a healthy eating award and explains to children that they must always eat their sandwiches before having any treats. This helps them in making healthy choices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for the next step in their education, including the eventual move to school. They make independent choices about their play and younger children are keen to try doing things for themselves, such as putting on their own boots. Older children confidently count to eight and beyond as they play and show interest in different shapes. Children of all ages enjoy looking at books and listening to stories. Older children develop their communication skills as they enthusiastically sing rhymes, while younger ones join in with the actions and develop a sense of rhythm.
