Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder takes all necessary steps to keep children safe and secure. She ensures that she is up to date with all child protection issues. The childminder is confident in identifying potential signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows what action to take, should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder continuously reflects upon her practice and identifies well-targeted action plans to improve her service. She shares information about children's activities with parents on a daily basis. Parents comment that they are very pleased with the childminder. They feel their child is confident and ready for school. The childminder is effective at sharing information with other early years settings children attend. This ensures that children receive continuity of care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effectively joins in with the children's play. She skilfully models speech and language to support children's choice and interests well. Children show that they are confident to initiate their own play with the extensive range of good-quality resources. The childminder purposefully demonstrates how to use tools and resources. She provides children with clear explanations to help them to do things for themselves. For example, children develop their mathematical understanding well as they match numbers on the key to the padlock. Children are eager to explore and experiment. They shout with joy as they negotiate unlocking the padlock with the small key and win the prize of a hair bobble. Children are interested and motivated to learn. The childminder makes learning fun as children take part in dressing up as a character from a book for World Book Day.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave exceptionally well. They learn to take turns, share resources and play cooperatively with each other. Children enjoy spending lots of time outdoors, being active and developing their physical skills. They enjoy trips to the local park and indoor soft play to access large climbing equipment. Children learn to take an active role in their care routines. They peel, cut and prepare their own fruit at snack time. Children are able to find their coats and wellington boots. They put these on themselves in readiness for outdoor play.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for their next steps in learning, such as starting school. They are confident communicators, as they increasingly learn to do more things for themselves. Children are eager and motivated to take part in new activities and experiences. They are able to identify numbers up to 10 and they know their name as they make purposeful marks.
