This provision is good

n Staff offer a caring and nurturing learning environment. Children settle well, play happily and develop a good sense of belonging and self-worth. Their behaviour is good. n Staff attend well to the needs of babies. Babies squeal happily and learn to explore resources safely. n Staff know how children learn and develop through play, and support their learning effectively. Children make good progress in relation to their individual starting points. Staff prepare children well for the next stages of their learning and development. n Staff hold discussions with children and allow them enough time to think and to respond. Older children confidently express their opinions. n Children engage well in a range of activities to help them develop their understanding of their own identity and other cultures. For example, children enjoy food from different countries and visit places of interest in the local community.

This provision is good

n Managers consistently assess and evaluate the quality of the provision to ensure consistency in supporting children's learning and development effectively. n Staff do not always provide enough opportunities for children to develop their early writing skills. n At times, staff miss opportunities to help children manage tasks for themselves so they can develop their independence even more.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed activities in all parts of the nursery, including the outdoor provision. n The inspector spoke to some members of staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection and held meetings with the management team. n The inspector carried out joint observations with the manager. n The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to during the inspection and reviewed parents' written comments and suggestions. n The inspector looked at children's records and the nursery's policies and procedures, including those related to the suitability of staff.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The provider undertakes the required vetting on all staff to help ensure that they are suitable for their roles. Staff have a good knowledge of safeguarding practice to support children's welfare. Managers and staff monitor the progress of each child and groups effectively. When they spot any issues, they seek guidance from professionals and provide extra support to help children catch up. Managers observe staff and give them constructive feedback to help them improve their teaching. Staff attend additional training to strengthen their knowledge and skills. They observe each other and share what they have gained from training to benefit children's learning. Staff establish strong links with relevant agencies and providers to ensure that children receive the appropriate support they need. Managers and staff consider the comments and suggestions of parents, children and others to maintain a good service.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff gain relevant information from parents about what their children know and can do. They use this information along with their ongoing observations to provide engaging activities to motivate children's learning. Staff explain activities well to children and play with them. Children have positive attitudes to learning and get on well with each other. Young children eagerly roll, pat and cut play dough into different shapes. Older children build their favourite models, for example using role-play trains and trucks. Children enjoy books, songs and musical instruments. Staff keep parents well informed about their children's progress and share with them how to support their children at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff support children's social and emotional skills to good effect. For example, they remind children to say 'please' and 'thank you'. Children learn to share resources fairly and to take turns. Staff help children adopt a healthy attitude. Children enjoy eating fruit and know that drinking water keeps them hydrated. Children have regular fresh air and exercise outdoors. For example, young children can climb the apparatus and learn to slide safely. Older children confidently manoeuvre bicycles and scooters. Staff conduct regular checks on the premises and resources to help children remain safe. Through outings, children practise to cross the roads safely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress and gaps in their learning are closing. Children who speak English as an additional language or have speech difficulties equally learn well. Babies learn new words and learn to socialise with others. Older children recognise their names. They can count and say the number names in order. They explore fresh flowers and talk about their colours and smell.
