Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Overall, the childminder reflects well on her provision. Since registering, she has improved the way she assesses and plans for children's learning, such as providing activities based on their interests. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibility to keep children safe. She completes regular training and knows what to do if she has any concerns about a child. She makes good use of training opportunities and shares ideas for activities with other professionals to help strengthen her teaching skills. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder gathers information about children's prior learning from parents to help her to support children's care and learning needs from the outset.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's early reading and writing skills successfully. For example, children enjoy listening to stories and have access to writing resources so that they can draw and record their thoughts and ideas during play. Young children have good opportunities to learn about the world in which they live, for example, when they explore natural resources, including wood, metal and fruits. As she interacts with children, the childminder encourages them to learn about their body parts. For example, as she changes babies' nappies she points to their eyes, ears and nose. Babies giggle in response to these positive experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very kind and caring. She gives children lots of praise during activities to help them to feel good about themselves and develop self-confidence. She supports their emotional well-being successfully. For example, children have settling-in sessions and are encouraged to bring familiar items from home, including photographs of their parents, to help them to settle. Children behave well. The childminder acts as a good role model and teaches them to understand rules and boundaries. For example, when children become a little too loud, she explains in a calm way that it is not acceptable and suggests alternative ways to behave. The childminder is committed in her approach to helping children have a healthy lifestyle. She provides nutritious meals and snacks and children benefit from regular fresh air and exercise, such as when they visit parks and play in the garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children successfully develop the skills that will help them in the future, including the eventual move to school. For example, they demonstrate independence as they follow instructions and complete simple tasks, such as tidying toys after play. Older children show good skills in speaking and listening and follow good hygiene routines. Babies walk with confidence and use words and gestures to communicate.
