Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. The childminder and the assistant present during the inspection have poor knowledge of child protection concerns relating to the 'Prevent' duty guidance. observations and assessments, and can explain children's next steps for learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder has a basic understanding of how to promote children's learning as they play. She gets to know children well and plans some group activities that follow their current interests. For example, children are supported with their physical development and mathematical understanding through activities, such as filling and emptying bottles. Children learn about colours as the childminder helps them to squeeze the paint into bottles and make shakers. The range of play experiences on offer does not promote all areas of children's learning well. For example, the childminder does not successfully promote children's literacy skills and their understanding of the world. The childminder provides an appropriate range of small-world toys and construction toys, which the children enjoy using.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
The weaknesses in safeguarding knowledge place children's health and well-being at significant risk. Children learn to share and be respectful towards others. They generally behave well and the childminder helps them to understand what is expected of them. Children benefit from daily fresh air and physical exercise. For example, they play in the childminder's garden or visit parks in the local area. However, the childminder does not help children to learn about diversity and the wider world. Young children settle quickly on arrival and are keen to begin exploring and learning.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Weaknesses in teaching mean that children do not make consistently good progress. Nevertheless, children are working within the typical range of development expected for their age and they acquire the basic skills they need in readiness for school. For example, younger children independently involve themselves in tidying up the toys. Older children develop skills to attend to their personal needs and communicate well. Children develop confidence and are eager to play and learn. They enjoy choosing and exploring the toys and activities by themselves.
