This provision is good

n The experienced childminder provides children with a comfortable and welcoming home-from-home environment. n Children show high levels of well-being during their time with the childminder. They form extremely close bonds to her and feel at ease. Children confidently share their wishes and needs with the childminder. n Children's good behaviour shows that they feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. They listen to each other attentively and share ideas during their conversations about a variety of topics. n The childminder seeks out relevant new information and uses it to help her keep children safe. For example, she is aware of how to ensure internet safety when children access resources or information online to help them with their homework or activities. n The childminder considers the views of parents and children to help her decide what experiences to offer children. As a result, children enjoy their time with the childminder.

p.1

This provision is good

n The childminder uses regular and positive interactions to support children to gain new skills and revisit what they have already learnt. n The childminder gives children regular opportunities for fresh air and exercise. This supports their health and well-being. Children regularly spend time playing outdoors in the childminder's garden and they go on trips to a local nature park. n The childminder does not provide a wide enough range of experiences that develop children's understanding of people, families and communities beyond their own.

Inspection activities n The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home and viewed the garden where children play. n The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector looked at children's records and a range of other documentation. n The inspector checked evidence of the qualifications and suitability of the childminder. n The inspector spoke with a small number of parents and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows the indicators of possible abuse or neglect and has a clear policy that she will follow if she has a concern about a child's well-being. The childminder sets high expectations for her practice. She regularly reflects on what she offers so that she meets the needs of the children who attend. The childminder ensures that the activities that she provides complement what children are learning at school. For example, she finds out about how children are being taught to read and write at their school and provides suitable activities to support them. The childminder recognises what aspects of her practice she needs to work on and then seeks out relevant training or information. This helps her to continuously improve.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder encourages children to concentrate well as they follow and develop their interests in a calm and unrushed environment. She allows them plenty of time to focus on their activities. This supports them to become life-long learners. The childminder skilfully helps children to build on their abilities during their play. She consistently shows an interest in what they do and encourages them to develop new skills. For example, she helps a child to remember how to print from a mobile computer device and then lets them fetch their picture from the printer independently.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is an excellent role model to children. She values children's contributions and shows them courtesy and respect. This encourages children to chat freely about their day and what fascinates them. The childminder gets to know children and their individual interests very well. She lets children take the lead during their activities, so they take pleasure from what that do. Children regularly make their own choices, for example they decide that they would like to do a threading activity. They ask for help from the childminder when they need it. They make suggestions about how to complete tasks and are proud of their achievements.
