Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to identify and report any concerns about a child's welfare. She knows who to contact should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder monitors children's development closely. This helps her to identify and close any gaps in their learning. She uses daily discussion and diaries to keep parents well informed about their child's care and learning. Parents are very happy with the service provided. The childminder reflects on the quality of her service and seeks feedback from parents to help her review the provision. She makes effective plans to improve children's learning outcomes.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder contributes well to the development of children's early mathematical skills. For example, she encourages children to explore shapes when they organise and sort shape sorters, and count steps as they climb the slide. She creates opportunities for children to learn about people and communities beyond their immediate experience. For example, the children enjoy trips to different places to observe new cultures. Parents appreciate the social skills their children develop during these off-site activities. The childminder supports children's language acquisition. For example, she introduces new words as children play, and this extends their vocabulary. Children's literacy skills are supported well, as they enjoy story time with the childminder.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a nurturing environment where children thrive. She works in partnership with parents to make sure children's daily routines are followed. This helps children to feel comfortable and secure. Children's behaviour is good. Children make choices freely during play activities and express their preferences confidently. The childminder helps children understand how to lead healthy lifestyles. For example, they have many opportunities that support them in developing their physical skills. Children regularly visit other groups with the childminder and have the opportunity to play and socialise with other children.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are happy, active and confident learners. They make good progress from their starting points and develop a good range of skills and abilities to support the next stage in their learning, including being ready for school. They show very good language and communication skills and are confident to express themselves.
