Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of her responsibilities to protect children from abuse and neglect well. She takes full advantage of regular training and additional research to make sure her knowledge of child protection is fully up to date. The childminder scrupulously considers the risks that children face in their play and makes any adjustments needed to keep them safe, including undertaking weekly emergency exit practice. The childminder routinely reflects on the effectiveness of all her planning. She takes full advantage of training opportunities to build her knowledge of children's learning and the curriculum she provides. She makes good use of knowledge from her degree in psychology, for example, to support children's emotional and behavioural development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder knows the children in her care extremely well. She gathers very detailed information about children's interests and emotional needs from parents to help them make a secure and confident start. She makes learning enjoyable. For example, children learn to count and recognise written numbers by playing 'lucky dip' tombola games that they help to construct and plan the prizes. The childminder constantly reinforces children's language development through, for example, extremely skilful questions and helping them to extend their ideas and reasoning. Children enjoy puzzles and games placed around the house that stimulate their curiosity and problem-solving skills. For example, the childminder provides experiments for children to explore the properties of rolling objects using bright shiny toys or hidden treasures in trays of materials such as cereals, shredded paper and coloured sands.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder's extremely caring, purposeful and gentle manner contributes to the very confident start children make. She strongly encourages children to think for themselves and take increasing control of their own learning. For example, children regularly make their own decisions about the toys they will play with and extend their learning by combining different toys and creating their own role play. She provides clear guidance for children to think and organise activities, including mealtimes, for themselves by providing pictures, labels and templates which are removed or changed as they become confident in their use. The childminder teaches children to play safely and consider the risks they meet in physical activities or when they are out on regular local visits and walks. She encourages a positive awareness of good hygiene and healthy lifestyles through, for example, the locally sourced well-balanced meals she provides and
