Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of child protection issues and of their responsibility to report any concerns about children's well-being. The childminder effectively monitors the work of her assistant, ensuring, for example, that both first-aid and safeguarding training are up to date. She takes good advantage of training opportunities and her links with the local authority to improve the quality of her provision. For example, she has improved her understanding of food safety. The childminder completes regular observations of children's play and learning and gathers relevant information from parents. She uses this information well to plan activities that help children to make good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder creates a warm and encouraging environment where children are welcomed and are keen to learn and play. For example, children have full access to many colourful and attractive toys and books in the playroom. The childminder helps children to settle quickly into positive routines that help them feel secure and confident. She gives lots of praise and children receive good support to explore textures and to name colours. Children show good levels of concentration. For example, they enjoy mark making using paints and focus well as they make shapes in play dough, using a variety of tools. The childminder encourages an interest in books. For instance, she sits with children to discuss stories and consider what might happen next.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes children's emotional well-being effectively and provides good levels of care for children. She encourages children to undertake simple tasks, such as helping to tidy away after activities. This helps them to gain a sense of responsibility. The childminder encourages children to eat healthy food and follow good hygiene routines. Children have access to the large garden and develop their physical skills well. The childminder encourages them to experience some risk and challenge in order to develop their physical skills. For example, in the outside environment children climb ladders safely to use the slide. Such opportunities help to extend their confidence, social skills and physical development effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress in their learning. They are self-assured and show good levels of independence. Children explore their surroundings with enjoyment and make choices about their play. They become confident communicators and clearly express their wishes and needs. They concentrate well and are motivated to learn. Children are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
