The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder updates her safeguarding knowledge regularly. She knows how to keep the children safe. She completes detailed risk assessments of her premises. Children receive good support to learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, the childminder teaches young children to negotiate steps into the garden. The childminder provides parents with copies of her policies and procedures and keeps them up to date with any future amendments. This helps parents to understand how she works.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder completes the progress check for children aged between two and three years in a timely manner. This helps her to identify any additional support children may need to help close any gaps in their development. She supports children's language and communication skills effectively. She demonstrates this when she provides a running commentary about what children are doing as they play and pronounces words clearly. The childminder links words to what it is children are playing with. For example, when making collage pictures, the childminder describes the textures of the materials. The childminder encourages children's imaginations very well. For example, children play with dolls to act out home routines. The childminder encourages children's love of books and stories. She reads to children, sharing the pictures and asking them questions to encourage and support their thinking.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a welcoming environment where children can explore and express themselves. Children are happy and engaged, demonstrating an eagerness to learn. Children understand how to play collaboratively. They take turns as they complete puzzles and games. Children are developing their independence. The childminder consistently encourages children to do things for themselves, such as putting on their coats and shoes. She praises children when they succeed with tricky tasks. This helps to promote children's confidence and self-esteem. Children learn to eat healthy and well- balanced meals and snacks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress, overall, from their individual starting points. They are well prepared for their future learning experiences, including starting school. For example, they learn to listen well to others and follow instructions. They develop their mathematical skills, for example through opportunities to count objects to 10 and beyond during creative activities and daily routines.
