p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to protect the children in her care. She is confident about how she would identify potential signs of abuse and the procedures she would use to report any concerns. The childminder has built good relationships with other childminders in the area, to share ideas. Robust and regularly reviewed risk assessments are used to help to provide a safe and secure environment when at home and on outings. The childminder values the comments and views of both parents and children in her self-evaluation, to help to inform areas for improvement and change.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder shares children's achievements with their parents and ideas to help children to continue to learn when at home. Parents comment on the loving environment the childminder provides for their children. They have the utmost confidence in her judgments and how she supports their children's progress. The childminder helps children to build on their increasing communication and language skills. For example, children love to sing songs with her and she repeats and introduces new words and sounds to help to build on their expanding vocabulary. Children are starting to use early mathematics in their play as they use coloured blocks to build different sized towers and use simple numbers as they count objects.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy their time with the childminder. They are excited and motivated learners who quickly become engaged in their play and learning. The childminder places an importance on children's physical development, to support their overall well-being. They use wheeled toys in the garden to learn about spatial awareness and have daily access to fresh air on their visits to feed the ducks at the park. Children listen well to instructions and show a rising level of independence in doing things for themselves. For instance, they like to access toys to make their own choices in their play and can repeat simple rhythms that are tapped out for them. The childminder is a good role model who encourages children to use good manners at all times.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are progressing well from their captured starting points. They are curious and inquisitive in their play. Children are learning to share and negotiate well with others, to help them to build on important social skills. They display an early understanding of caring and showing empathy for others and can express their own needs and wants with ease. Children are gaining the necessary skills they require for their future learning.
