improve their skills and knowledge. n Occasionally, the childminder gives children answers too quickly instead of giving them the time they need to think, make predictions and test their ideas. n The childminder sometimes misses opportunities for children to learn to do things by themselves so that they become even more independent. n Systems to enhance the assistant's knowledge and skills are still under development and are not yet fully effective in delivering consistently high-quality practice.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a strong knowledge of the safeguarding and welfare requirements through regular training. Additionally, she and her co-minder ensure any assistants they use have a good knowledge of safeguarding matters. For example, they attend child protection, first aid and health and safety training to ensure the well-being and safety of children is assured. The childminder ensures that all the required documentation to safeguard and promote children's welfare is in place, such as children's personal details and their record of attendance. The childminder makes good use of risk assessments to identify and minimise risks to the children indoors and outside. She extends risk assessments to outings and when travelling in the car. This means that children play and learn in safety. Parents say they are extremely happy with the care the two co-minders provide for their

children and their professional approach to their work.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The enthusiastic childminder plans interesting activities that complement the children's interests and needs well. For example, children are eager to create a paper house from a well-known fairy tale from a cardboard box. They develop a strong sense of team work as they explore with different types of sticky tape. The children take turns to hold and cut the lengths of tape to help each other construct the roof. Overall, the childminder's teaching skills are strong, especially for older children. For example, she interacts well with them to extend their language and communication skills. She models new words to widen their vocabulary, such as 'duct tape' and 'tacky'. The childminder helps children develop good mathematical skills. For example, children count, match oval shapes and discuss colour, size and length as they create a collage. The childminder helps children develop good literacy skills and a love of books. For instance, she encourages them to

talk about the story and find objects to learn new words.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children learn to care for the environment and treat each other with kindness and respect. For example, she and her co-minder provide clear house rules. They give gentle reminders and clear explanations, which helps children learn right from wrong. The childminder supports children's awareness of danger well. For example, older children tell younger ones they need to wear a high-visibility vest to keep them safe on outings. Children enjoy healthy snacks and have plenty of opportunities to learn about good hygiene skills. For instance, the childminder encourages children to clean their teeth after lunch.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are becoming enthusiastic learners, who are well prepared for the next stages in their learning. Children of all ages communicate confidently, make choices and know how to express their views. For instance, during role play, children express their imaginative ideas to their friends clearly. Children develop their physical skills as they dance to action songs and learn how to throw, catch and kick balls to others.
